Happy Elmer Day!

Elmer The Elephant Day is on the 24th of May and I have 4 different activities that you can do at home with your little ones to celebrate on of the best Children’s books of all time. These activities are simple to do and you’ll probably have most of the items at home.

  1. Elmer Nature Hunt

For this activity you will need…

. Cardboard (Don’t worry if you can’t draw! I’ve enclosed a printable Elmer Nature Hunt which you can print out and get your little ones to fill it in)

    . Paints or Felt Tips

. Nature Finds or Shop Bought Flowers

    . Glue

If you are creating this activity with cardboard then all you need to is get some cardboard and draw Elmer on the cardboard. I then filled in some of the spaces with different coloured paints. I left some blank but this is completely optional. I then cut our Elmer out and when we went on a walk I got the children to collect different Nature finds such as leaves, stones, sticks, fallen flowers, Daisies, Buttercups, Dandelions, Grass, Feathers… anything like that. I also used some shop bought flowers that were nearly dying and took the petals from them. Once home the girls had to fill in the blanks with our Nature finds making sure they grouped the colours to complete the patchwork.

If you are not the best drawer and this would put you off this activity then don’t worry I’ve created a printable Elmer! You can print this out and get your little ones to fill this with nature finds instead! You can download this by clicking the link below…

Elmer Nature Hunt

This activity is great for fine motor skills, gross motor skills, colour recognition, colour sorting, problem solving skills and more!
